the power steering suddenly stopped working (after a left u-turn, but i guess that could be coincidence). there's fluid in the container, it could be actually a little bit over the 'hot' mark, the fluid is clear orange (did not see any metal particles). i don't see any leaks; the ps pump was replaced around a year ago...how can i diagnoze the problem further?

You've not commented on the pump's drive belt.
If it's an independent V belt is it on the pulley? Is it tight?
If it's a serpentine belt, the news may not be good - pump or steering box/rack.
