65 Chevy van

Greetings all,

I could not find a NG for chevy vans so I thought I would try you guys out. My wife has inherited a 65 Chevy van from her father. It is certainly a diamond in the rust, but the top 3/4 still seems to be keeping most of the water out and it still has all of the glass in it, so I guess it could be worse. This one has several windows down the passenger side, but the drivers side has none, and the engine is almost mid vehicle, kind of like a Toyota Previa.

My question is this, where could I go about running the VIN to find out what engine/tranny combo it has and anything else fascinating about it? From my own feeble attempts at fact finding I have only been able to deduce that it is #33,739 of its production run.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, the Misses wants to know if it is worth the trouble to try to sell it or just haul it off for scrap.

Thanks again, Jim C Roberts

IF anyone is interested, it is in SE Tenn, Chattanooga area. JR

There were four engine choices that year, a 153 cid 4 banger, 194 cid 6 banger, the 230 cid

6 banger, or the 283 V-8. Memory says the 230 was the most popular engine Two tranny choices, 3 spd manual, or a 2 spd powerglide. Most I have seen had the 3 spd, 60/40 split. There are people that are very fond of early vans with the dog house between the seats, And if it has the V-8 it might attract attention. The models with the "recessed" flat windshield seem to be the most popular. E-bay it and see what happens. I hate to see any early iron sold for scrap. Will admit was never fond of the early Chevy vans, preferred the look of the ford Econoline Falcons, but the Chevy was by far a better looking beast than the beat to death by a whole forest of ugly stick trees dodge with the pie tin head light trim and two piece windshield. there wont be anything too fascinating because trim levels and options were few.
