the abs light flickered once and all the guages went dead.
at the same time, the charging system quit working. i'm
driving by using a battery charger nightly.
no other symptoms except the factory radio began to lose
its memory of presets about 2 weeks before.
fuse for the instrument cluster in the fuse panel shows good.

Sounds like a ground problem. Are your battery cables clean? Is the engine ground good? Are all connections on the alternator clean? Will the battery hold a charge over night, if not, will it hold a charge over night if the alternator is disconnected? When running, does a voltmeter on the posts of the battery show about 14VDC? With engine off, does an ammeter between the pos post and the pos wire (must be removed from the batt) show any draw? If it does, remove one fuse at a time - which one removes the draw?
