Astro/safari transmission Question.

Did any astro or safari's ever leave the factory with a standard 4 or 5 speed transmission?

Was an Automatic the only availlable unit in these vans?

I'm thinking of dropping a 350 into a safari, and thought that a 5 speed would be very nice.

Still just thinking about it at this point.

from what i've read, the manual tranny was in the early years (86 or so), but was mated to a much weaker engine. you can find out for sure at

They can probably tell you which tranny to use and how to do it.
