Anyone know how to change the transmission fluid in a Chevrolet Equinox
2005? It has a Aisin 55-50 AW33 transmission (5sp fwd auto) There is one bolt on the bottom that probably can be used to drain There is a 5 sided with rounded corners bolt on the top of the transmission There is no dip stick or full tube.
Now I can measure what I drain out so thats not a problem, I use 1gallon clear jugs and use water to mark of 1,2,3,4qt.
The problem is that I can't see how to get the new Toyota T-IV fluid back into the transmission! A 5 sided bolt with rounded corners is not the type of wrench I have in my toolbox!
I called the dealer service department, they mentioned they do it on a lift and remove a smaller bolt to have it spit out transmission fluid and they open up a larger opening (I am guessing the 5 sided bolt) to pour new fluid in. They were not detailed enough for me to understand clearly.
One thought was to try to use the transmission fluid cooler lines, I could unhook them and use rubber hoses to reroute those lines to a drain pan and a
1 gallon jug of T-IV fluid, but will the transmission pump actually SUCK fluid back up into itself or does it need the pressure pushing from the pump to make a complete cycle? Some websites mentioned changing fluid this way but I thought that the transmission pump only worked on one side, and that since the cooling line is a completed circuit it would eventually return to the transmission after being cooled. Am I wrong in that it actually pumps fluid out but also pumps fluid back in as well and that placing the cooling lines into separate containers will actually work?
