Transmission leak

I have a 1995 chevy tahoe 5 speed 4wd transmission. On the clutch housing left side (looking at front of truck) under the starter is a cylinder that has a hydraulic line coming out of it. At the backside is a hole that leaks oil. Some spots were green like radiator fluid but mostly dark. Is this some sort of actuator and can it be patched or do I need to get a whole clutch housing?

That is the clutch slave cylinder. Yes it can be replaced. Would need to be replaced then bleed the clutch system.

But the housing it fits into has a hole in it. Would the clutch housing need to be replaced?

If the leak is the clutch slave it is a separate part. However if the leak is coming out of the weep hole at the bottom of the bellhousing then it may not be the clutch but the rear main seal of the engine itself. You need to look it over very close and determine where the leak is. When was the last time the clutch was replaced?

I'll take a better look. The transmission was replaced a couple years ago I believe. I just bought the truck recently.

What I thought was a break in the bell housing is a manufactured triangular shaped hole. I cleaned off the oil and drove the truck around. I could see new oil running down the side of the bell housing from the starter to a point where it could get onto the clutch slave cylinder. I guess the only thing above the starter that could leak oil would be the head gasket, hard to see there.

More than likely it is a bad valve cover seal, the oil filter cooler adapter gaskets, the rear intake gasket or the oil pressure sender unit.

If it is coming outside the starter then it is probably the valve cover gasket.

Turns out it was a radiator fitting and some bad hoses. I guess it looked like oil from running through some dirt.
