2000 Intrepid - Issues Fuelling

Greetings all. I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid (Regular, no ES or R/T). For a loooooong time now, I have had issues with the fuel system. Specifically, I am constantly having problems with fuel getting into the vent hose for the tank, which makes it very difficult to get gas. When you start fueling it goes for about 3 seconds then it will constantly trip the sensor on the pump, forcing the gas to be pumped in at an extraordinarily slow rate. If you go and pop the vent hose off and drain the gas, it will work fine the next time, but then it gets gas in it again. Looking at a schematic of the fuel system, it seems like that vent tube isn't designed very well, as it is in a bad spot on the tank to begin with, and then it goes down and comes back up, leaving a spot for gas to get trapped.

Has anyone else ever had this issue or heard of it? Any suggestions? We were thinking of trying to rerun the tube or add in a kind of bypass tube so it wouldn't get obstructed.

Thanks!

The fuel inlet system is common between Base, ES and R/T trim levels, In fact ALL LH body cars use identical parts in the tank area, from the filler neck to tank, to fuel pump/float-sender unit.
