Problem with Grand Fury...

I have a 87 Grand Fury, 71k on the ticker. Problem had kicked up. When the car reaches operating temp she bucks and kicks like a angry horse. I have checked all the conections everything is on tight. It just started doing this.. It makes the car undrivable. The car has had new plugs, wires, cap rotor and the carb rebuild. Anyone????

Thanks Jake New Hampshire

It has the 318 with carb.

The '85-'89 Civilian (non-cop) M-body vehicles (Plymouth Gran Fury, Dodge Diplomat, Chrysler New Yorker 5th Avenue and, in Canada only, Plymouth Caravelle) tend to have EGR problems. This shows up on most every example of this car as a tendency to surge under steady part throttle operation when at operating temperature -- and that's with the EGR system working as designed! If any part of the EGR system goes out of adjustment or fails, the problem will worsen from surging to "bucking and kicking". Since you don't mention stallout at idle, you may want to remove the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and plug it with a pencil temporarily, then try driving the car. If the bucking is gone, you know which system needs attention.

If that doesn't solve the problem, and you have indeed confirmed all the basics (proper carburetion and ignition, no vacuum leaks) then your issue may lie with the spark advance control computer affixed to the air cleaner. If that's the problem, there are several options for fixing it, some more satisfactory than others.

DS,

Thank you very much for the info... I was looking at the "BOX" on the air cleaner and I was thinking about that... I will try the egr thing. And yes she stalls at start up... I found a couple of dip's at the junkyard on sat, they have the box in them... I will let you know what happens and again thank you for the help..
