what was that engine used in apart from the Daimler saloons?

Possibly earlier models of Daimler, but nothing else as far as I know.

Alex

Wonder if it was used in a military vehicle? Or perhaps ambulance?

The Daimler Dingo used the DB18 engine, a pre-war design. The DE27 was used for the ambulance, again pre-war. The Daimler Ferret used the Rolls Royce B60. The Conquest was designed in 1950.

I don't have a reference book handy at the moment, so I can't enlighted you further.
