Ya ready for diesel yet?

It's a matter of time now! Aside from a few stubborn goofs like =DFill, y'all are going to start thinking diesel pretty soon. Of course when the craze starts, the price of suitable engines is going to skyrocket...too bad I have a few in my garage, isn't it?

Every time gas prices skyrocket, people start smoking the diesel pipe. Too bad it's not a real solution.

It works pretty well for me. 30% better mileage on 15% cheaper fuel (as of right now) with torque out the butt and no electronics....yeah, total horsepower is lower, but I'm not drag racing a 4WD.

"If" the diesel craze ever did take of, you'd be crying the blues as prices rose with demand.

And you'd still have to live with the smell. LOL

bllsht did pass the time by typing:

Like most of Europe where diesel is the #1 type of fuel sold?

hint, it's not that bad >if< properly refined. OF course they do pay out the ass for it.

Yup, $3.50 a gallon for diesel here, but at 50 mpg my vw is still cheaper than burning regular in my trucks or my bikes.

and too bad the price isn't a hell of a lot different than gas... certainly not enough different to pay for a new engine...

Man, just follow a bus in any Canadian city and the stench is overwhelming! We have so much sulfur in the crap any diesel on our trail runs will be bringing up the rear or not coming.

They say they 'can' clean the fuel up, but then diesel would cost twice as much as gas.

Why? Diesel in my area costs $0.30 MORE than gasoline.

Get more mpg though. That's why it's popular in Europe. For offroading its ideal as the torque advantage is large and they aren't affected by water as badly.

I will have to call you insane as usual, because diesels have no jets or carburetors. All diesels have high pressure timed mechanical or electromechanical fuel injection.

More =DFillschi=DF.

Cummins sells spark ignition versions of most of its diesels for natural and producer gas use. The price isn't lower, it's higher.

Mercedes Benz, VW and everyone else outside the US builds diesel and gas car engines on the same basic platform. The diesel is about fifteen percent higher build cost because of the fuel system. The added materials for strength add about two dollars.

Good God, man! are you relying on logic and evidence to back up your statements? You don't stand a chance against prejudice.
