MoT woes

: In fact I've never seen them alter anything when doing the : brake test in the past - they just press the buttons to operate the : rollers.

The readings are taken in kgf then entered into the computer, which works out whether it passes by comparing with the vehicle weight. My last tester had great difficukty finding the unladen weight of a 2CV. Apparently the VOSA system does not accept "two fifths of bugger all" as a valid value.

Autolycus ( snipped-for-privacy@mainbeam.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Like I said - AIUI.

If you have a look at the tester's manual on motuk.co.uk, there's no figures - my understanding is that's because anything remotely recent has specific values in the emission computer.

Yes, my '78 Mini failed on emissons. However my older (60s) cars have never been emission-tested - yet (will see what happens to the Elf next month...)

You get that sort of crap from the usual high street and tv-advertised insurers. For classic and kit cars you really need to go to the specialist agents like Flux, Nash, Sykes, Footman James, Osborne, etc.

For recovery just join AA or RAC as a personal member (you can get a discount if you belong to an MSA recognised club or the IAM, probably RoSPA too) then you're covered whatever car you're in, but other members of your family won't be if you're not with them. Alternatively get recovery insurance linked to your normal insurance. Adrian Flux charges £42 p.a. and that covers your vehicle for the whole of Europe but with a maximum claims total in any one year.

It's age related for production cars, but for pre-SVA hand built cars (i.e. kit cars) there are no specific requirements other than no visible emissions. I think for the SVA and subsequent MOT tests the requirements relate to the age and type of the engine.

My cars have been checked for emissions a few times, but they don't get failed on it.

what car is this? replica or real lemans racer?

Kitcar

Neither. It's not a replica because it's an original design (well OK it was somebody else's design that got modified a bit). My car isn't a racer but many others have been raced, including in the 1966 and 1967 le Mans 24 hours.
