Radio repair?

Indeed. I did agree that was worth a try.

something like the Vintage Wireless

Who will undoubtedly give him Autoradio Wagner's contact details, as he did to me. [1]

[1] Because he said replacement parts are impossible to find in this country. Do you think he just hadn't thought of trying Maplins?

Did that today, and the radio is back in perfect working order :-)

Actually, it's better than it was before, the sound seems to have improved, and now there is no sound difference between frequencies (before FM was quieter than MW, which was irritating when changing frequencies).

Although I did notice that the separate amplifier/power pack had slight condensation on the inside. I dried it off with a hairdryer, but any ideas to stop it?

Unfortunately I have to keep the car outside, but it does not leak.

yup! push for on/off, pull for tone, left and right for volume.

but the switch cleaner worked a treat (see my other post)

Thanks to all who replied.

Thanks for the advice, Fred! I use the car often, and so the radio gets used regularly. I think that it [the radio] had not been used for a long time before I bought it though, so maybe some of the problem.

I was rather puzzled in how it occurred. I left home, radio on tuned it and fine... then I went to the shop, back out again and when I turned on the radio the volume control had this problem. The switch cleaner seems to have done the trick, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
