Triumph TR7

Naah, not a transverse leaf but two leaf springs fitted a la Capri. I had one too - my first car, £60 + £40 for second-hand engine to get it running. Great car, 105mph downhill with a following wind. Was utterly reliable too - didn't have to spend any money on it aside from a bit of paint to fake up the rust.

Aaah, heady days.

They look like complete rubbish, the proportions are all wrong and the car sits far too high as if it were on stilts. That style of car coudl look good (Fiat X1/9 and Lancia Stratos) but the British Leyland attempt was truly awful and stickign a Triumph badge on it was an insult to anyone who ha dsupported the brand up till that particular nadir.

BTW, you may want to change your email address in the "From:" line. You are obliged by convention to accept all mail directed to "postmaster" and indeed it's a very good idea to do so, because PlusNet will direct important communications to postmaster. Using it in the from line of posts to usenet will attract spam, and make your postmaster account unusable.

Are you serious or just being provocative? Anyone who is insulted by whatever a manufacturer does with it's products is in serious need of a life. The TR7 was a car of the 70's and that it; nostalgia wasn't big then. Everyone had crap cars and the clothes were worse! I think BL made a very brave decision to go with a young designer's idea of a car for the future and US sales made it a success despite the ribbing it always gets over here. At one time it was the fashion to have go at anything BL made, and Barry Manilow. The supporters would have been dedicated people but they would have no right to be insulted by a British designed car if they had bought the Italian designed TR4/5, or the German designed TR6. My favourite is the TR4 which the Germans redesigned after too many beer festivals into the 6. The 7 is a bit of a pig from some angles but easily improved. Ripping off that awful blow moulded front spoiler is step 1.

Yep, sorry I never took to the TR7 from the moment it appeared. Other companies (as noted) made a much better job using the same basic shape and the TR7 always smacked of an exercise to dispose of surplus Leyland parts.

The front end is nearly there IMO and looks heaps better with the BL Motorsport Rally type spoiler. But that back window and arse end are pure Uncle Sam. The stillborn Lynx version looked better with it's "fastback" rear like the SD1. I have also seen one with a Scimitar type rear end in Rimmers car park but I don't know were it came from.
