67 Firebird rear end

I just picked up a 67 to restore. The rear frame is a racing home built and the differential is not original (The multi leaf mounts are moved inboard to accomodate s375 60 15 tires. It is a 10 bolt open rear and I will be looking at going to a posi unit. My question is, is it worth it to look into cutting off the spring/shock mounts and welding them in the correct location or should I just replace the rear? I have never delved into a project this extensive and I appreciate any advice you have.

Sounds like a great project! I'm restoring a '68 Camaro, very similar car. I'm not sure which way you might go with that suspension, you could post it on

it's a mainly 67-69 camaro site but lots of people ask Firebird questions too. Lots of tech info and some of the guys are true experts so you can get as much free advice as you like--

good luck,
