Power steering pumps are NOT for the faint of heart to rebuild. You'd be light years ahead getting a rebuilt one off the shelf that's ready to go.

BTW I have never changed any PS pump in any GM I have ever owned. The Saginaw pump used is durable and the best in the business. Joe:

I have changed a good number of them. S-10's & Astro Vans with the 4.3 V6 have a weak shaft, for the stress loads the pumps can see. Especially when doing a lot of tight turns, on a regular basis. Such as parking garages, and small parking lots, where the driver has to go turn to lock just to get in or around.

I have changed others for reasons like people running them empty, cracked or broken reservoirs (usually idiot caused), and a good number of times to eliminate Hydra boost set up's. If it's mine and their is room for a Vacuum brake booster, bye-bye hydra boost. Charles

It's a box, with a shaft, and a spinny thing inside. How hard could it be ?!

I'll say it again. It's tough to do RIGHT so it will not leak for the same 25 years as the original one you are likely going to replace.

I can do it, but not everyone can. It's better in the long run to get a quality rebuilt item for 99% of the folks out there.
