alternator..

Not unless you need a pulley for a truck, cavalier, or corvette.

Call the dealership manager up, and let then know what this guy is doing. Hell if the alternator is in stock, he could have grabbed one off a shelf and given you the pulley part numbers off of it. Charles

See another dealer, that one is stupid. No wonder they don't sell any parts.

Half of the dealer countermen are morons and can't scratch their ass with both hands. I'd find that pulley in 2 seconds if I had my EDS in front of me now.

If the pulley isn't listed in the respective group #2 (which is the electrical group for GM), then it will be in an alternator/generator chart by OEM ID #.

GM publishes charts with breakdowns of all the parts for the alternator. All you have to know is the stamping # from the case and then it can be found in the chart in the respective year. The pulley is one of the parts listed.

GM generally services EVERY part of the alternator, down to the screws that hold the case together.

Find another GM dealer with a clue. Joe--ASE Certified Parts Specialist & 10th Ann.Club Tech Director '80 Carousel Red Turbo T/A, 27k orig. '79 "Y89" 400/4 speed 10th Ann. T/A, 57k orig '84 Olds 88 Royale Bgm 2 dr, 307 "Rocket" (lol), 143k and still going.... '91 S10 Blazer 4.3Z

Yea I cross referanced the part number. Fits trucks, up to current, back to the 80's. Fit's a few year of 'Vette's, 2.8 W-cars, Vans, Caprice Classics, J-cars, no F-bodies.

The site I looked on doesn't list a pulley for a 88 or a 92 even. Yet If I had the part numbers, I could probably cross referance it.

One thing to do is to ask the guy at the dealer's parts counter to look up the car, with the engine vin diget. Then ask him to go to a alternator exploded view. Then ask him to swivel the monitor so you can see it. Then point to the pulley and ask him to pull up the part number.

If he's an ass, walk stright to the dealer mangers office, let him know. If he's an ass, file a complaint with GM. Those parts counters are there to sell YOU parts. GM wants you to go in and purchase parts for your cars there. Hence the decals "Keep your GM all GM with AC-Delco". Charles

Hey careful, I LIVE in Wisconsin! This is one of the worst places to have a classic car (cold, snow, few cruising spots), and finding old car parts is hard too...I've yet to find a dealer I'd trust either....

Ok, I swent to the dealership in Dubuque today... told him what I needed.. he said.. for 88? I said yeah, he said "there is only one choice... you got your belt idler and your fan and water pump.. so you need the one with the water pump.. I don't have it in stock, but the closest one is in Madison" He printed me off a sheet of it.. with the part number and price.. they want $39.89 for the "Pulley, Fan & W/Pump" Part #10055880 Does that one make more sense?

Not only does that part number not come up, but a water pump pulley will not do you a bit of good.

You need an alternator pully. Charles

Oh geeze.. looking at the top now.. it says "Cooling system-grille-oil system" Ok, So that takes Iowa out of the knowledgable dealerships too. I am almost to the point of saying f*ck it, and ripping it apart now and not have to woorry about it. Which blows, because I will want to drive it atleast one more time before it goes under the knife.. or wrench in this case.

Boy you live in a stupid state. LOL. Tell them you need an ALTERNATOR PULLEY. LOL.

Then tell the dolt to look at the alternator parts breakdown for the thing.

For Pete's sake, send me the information (OEM # on the alternator, year, make, model, engine size, and alternator output) and I'll find the damn part and give you the part #. LOL.

9 times out of 10 on GM vehicles, the alternator IS serviced (individual pieces are available). There are some that are not (like the CS130 on my 89 Cavalier), but I doubt yours is this type.

Thats the thing, I can't give you the numbers off it cause it is 200 miles away.... All I can tell you right now is that its SUPPOSED to be for an '88 Firebird Formula 305TBI.. I say SUPPOSED to be because some of the parts on the engine have been switched.. was told it was rebuilt, but was also told it was a 350.. so who knows.. but on the alternator to have the pulley the wrong size, who knows if the alternator is the right output.

E-mail me the details and I'll have a look in the EDS Parts Imager for GM tomorrow. I'll see what I can figure out based on what it's SUPPOSED to be. LOL.
