My upper idler pulley is making noise. I picked up a new one from my Ford dealership on Saturday. It looked like a pretty simple and straightforward repair - take the tension off the belt, back the idler pulley bolt out and replace.
Wrong. Grrrrrrr. As I backed the bolt out, the idler pulley got closer and closer to the fan blade. There is not enough clearance between the bracket that the idler pulley bolts to and the fan blade. Further, the fan blades are too close to each other to allow the pulley to slip between the fan blades.
My shop manual states that the fan blade must be removed and that it takes special tools to do so.
Anyone have a do-it-yourself solution?
Thanks.
