AC Fan malfunctioning

Hello,

I have a 96 Ford Explorer XL with regular climate control functions.

A few days ago the air stopped blowing in speeds 1, 2 and 3, and only the 4th high function is blowing air, no matter where I choose the air to blow from, A/C is working fine.

I thought it's the blower motor so I bought one and replaced it. When I took the old blower motor out and put the new one in I plugged the wires and all 4 speed were working fine (before I attached the blower to the car) when I finished, before I started the motor I turned the ignition on and the air was blowing fine in all 4 fan speeds but came out only from the windows exit. I gave up and put everything back and then when I started the car it was back to where it was with the old blower motor. Only the 4th speed level was working and the air came out from any exit I choose.

I don't know what to do and what is causing the problem. I read back in this newsgroup and saw some options, but no one was exactly as mine. I will appreciate if someone who had or know about the same symptoms will tell me what he thinks I should do.

Thanks, Hagay.

The system uses vacuum from the engine to direct the air. If the engines off no vacuum.

Usually that means the resistor pack is bad. High bypasses the resistors so it keeps working. It should be mounted in the ducting by the blower motor.

Thanks,

I chnaged the Blower Motor to find it is not the problem, then I tested the AC Panel and it was working fine.

I figured out the problem is with the Blower Motor Resistor and change it, now every thing is fine.

Cost of parts was: New After Market Blower Motor $80 CAD. Used Blower Motor Resistor - $6 CAD.

Thanks for your help.

Hagay.
