I am going to be selling my Explorer within the next 6 months, and oddly as it sounds, I have a possible buyer for it. But, he's in Thailand, and I'm in the USA.
Can this vehicle be exported there? Anyone know what would be involved?
This isn't one of those "you cash our cheque and pay the man that picks it up for us" scams, is it???
I hope not... it's a gentlemen I've done business with before. He's just expressed an interest in it.
But seriously... I've heard of people taking them to places like the UK, but I haven't a clue what would be involved. This is probably something I don't wanna do... too much of a hassel.
Personal opinion: it's his purchase, let him figure it out. I have no idea what would be involved, but I would imagine it's more than simply arranging transport. It would be far easier for him to find what would be required to import it into his country, than for you to find what it would take to do so. Yeah, way too much hassle.

Several yeasr ago, I looked into this in order to send a car to a family member overseas. It's actually very easy on this side of the pond ... need the paperwork (clear title and so on), find a shipping agent, take it to the port and it's gone. As I remember it, it was about $600 for shipment to Asia (1995-ish prices).
BIG issue is on the other end of the process. Especially in Asia. Taxes, import duty, availability of spare parts, availability of unleaded gas, and so on and on and on. We found it was just too much trouble on the receiving end to bother.
However, if the gentlemen in Thailand is well enough connected and aware of these issues, it might be a good deal for both of you.

2 months for all the spareparts to be in France. Add to that taxes when you import from switzerland to france, (about $500), tax for secial agreement ($80), tax for license plate ($400) and wait for 4 months..Then now I'm happy, proud owner of a self-imported Explo
