can anyone recommend a cross country car mover?

In a few months I'm moving from Irvine California to Lexington Kentucky. I was thinking of selling my bug, but decided that I would probably regret it for the rest of my life so have decided to move it. Anyone here had any experience with companies who perform car moves? I'm not going to say price is no object, but somebody else will be paying for it.

Are you having someone else move the rest of your stuff or are you renting a truck ?

check out the different auto movers that you might see on ebay. I have found that some will do price matching to get your business. ;-)

I am guessing that $700 might be an average price and they all should have insurance. Take pictures of the odometer, your car from all angles, and the actual truck along with the driver that is moving your Bug too! ;-)

My sister-in-law had a Buick transported from Myrtle Beach, SC (one block from the Atlantic) to Huntington Beach, CA (one block from the Pacific) at a cost of $900 ... so the $700 guess from CA to KY is probably pretty close.

You can rent a trailer from one of those rental places like U-Haul or Rider and move it yourself.

It's all paid for by the new employer, but with a limit. The mover (North American) recommended having a separate company do it because they would charge on top of simply having a company do it. Sounds strange, but they would just act as a middle man. The moving estimator said she was not allowed to recommend outside companies.

That's pretty good advice. I don't think I would want them to drive my car across the country :-) My present insurance might cover the car, I have it insured for replacement value (what I paid for the car + 20% or so).

Been there, done that, I'm not doing it again :-) I'm having a major van line move my house at employer's expense and there is still some allowance left for car transport, but I need to get at least 2 estimates.

Thanks. When I'm ready I'll use them for one of the estimates I need.
