Just got an '02 Explorer XLT and when looking through the manual, I couldn't find a section of whether or not I need to "warm-up" the truck before driving. Is this still the norm for all cars like in the old days or does our "new" technology not need it?
Even back in "the old days" this was still the best way to do it.
The remote starters that Bill alludes to have a real downside where snowfall is appreciable. "In the old days", we would start our cars and proceed to sweep them off as they warmed up..... remote starters give us a very real opportunity to have our wipers encased in a 4 inch block of ice (DAMHIKT) as we have that extra cup of joe.
Either way, a car idling in park is getting no miles per gallon and is still emitting tailpipe emissions. Coincidentally, we see EATC that wont blow too much without looking at engine temp and heated seats becoming more and more prevalent......
