any short cuts on the 4R70W transmission?

99 crown vic - P71 package - transmission works fine in forward direction. smooth gear changes and no slipping.

reverse will catch, and it does not slip idling. but as you apply some gas to back up, you can feel the shudder of the band slipping. as the engine returns to idle, you can feel the band stop the drum. the feeling is that it has friction material on it and is not wore out, but not enough force to hold it tight enough to back up. any suggestions or short cuts to strengthen the reverse?
