P reg 97 escort 1.3

two faults... help appreciated...

1. clock, interior lights, radio... all not working and fuse keeps blowing immediately when replaced without key in ignition...

1. grating sound when turning steering wheel... still turns okay though (lubrication?)

known faults? easily fixable?

1) short circuit, take it auto electrician, its probably the fuse box 2) either the bush dropped out in the steering colum or top bearing in ignition colum worn, easy to fix, look in manual
