223 ideas

I have a 1959 Ford F-100 with a 223 inline 6 with a 3 on the tree transmission, and I was wondering if there is anyway i can put an automatic behind the 223. I also want to put a new exhaust header and intake manifold on it. does anyone have any ideas on where i can find these things or any other ideas?

Ford had a 2 speed automatic back then that should be able to bolt in as it was used with block designs like yours. I cannot help you on the exhaust and intake though. I will say though that a 6 cyl engine of that era would gain little is any with a header on it but a better intake would be worthwhile.

He's going to run into the same problem old f-100 is going to hit, no rear tranny mount because the tranny just hangs off the bell housing.

You are likely right. Over 30 years ago we converted a 65 3/4 ton chevy from a 3 on the tree to a powerglide and it too had no tranny mount (bellhousing mounts) but as I recall in that case we simply left out the bellhousing mounts and found a cross member in a bone yard for it and bolted it in. We then found a steering colum with a automatic shifter on it and swapped it out to. Granted this was a Chevy but the same basic concept would likely work with that old Ford.
