72-F250 A/C, does plastic face come off separately?

I've got an A/C unit on a 1972 F250. I don't know whether it's factory and the way they made 'em back then or if it's aftermarket. It bolts in under the dash above the floor on the passenger side of the cab.

I'm trying to get the full shield face plate off so I can get to the core behind it. I'm either missing something or it attaches from behind and I have to drop the whole damn thing.

Anybody know about 'em? I'm apprecaite a little help. Well, maybe help is too strong a word. I can't afford a plane ticket for ya. :) Let's try "advice."

TIA

good rule of thumb is if it's bolted to the bottom of the dash it's a pretty good bet that it's an AFTERmarket, even in 1972 factory air was built into the dash...now factory air can mean "dealer installed" in which case it will be an aftermarket unit installed at the dealer....look to unbolt the whole "interior unit " and drop it down to the floorboard to check this out.....be careful if you're going to remove it from the truck...those old '72 units still used r-12 or r-22....banned in most of the world today....if the unit is giving you fits...I'd recommend pricing a new unit and HAVING it installed...an r-12 to r-134 conversion is NOT as simple as some people would have you think and can run $600 or higher....depending on where you have it done...

'preciate the response. The air's been disconnected for some time. I'm trying to get to the heater core, which is part of the unit, and coincidentally, just behind the plastic. As for the R-12 to 134 conversions, I've done a few and they appeared to be a piece o'cake. I got so good at it I had to start wearing H/D long sleeves. :O!

Well gee, thanks! But the plastic cover appears to NOT come off by itself. and neither does the trim plastic/chrome face plate. Of course I didn't know that until I popped it off and found that it had push nuts on the other side. So, to get em back on I bought some clear plastic hose, 5/32 ID I think, and slipped it over the plastic studs leaving an extra quarter inch tail. Stuck 'em in the holes and palm-smacked each one-PRESTO! It fit like a glove.
