88 F-350 Headlight Problem

First things first. 1988 F-350 Flatbed, I have already changed the headlight switch and a relay. Okay the problem I'm having is when I pull on the 3 position headlight switch, the headlight come on but no running lights. The wierd thing is, the first position is off the second is the running lights the third, running lights and headlights. But when I place the switch in the second position the runninglights don't come on. If I pull the switch a hair more the running lights come on but I hear a click under the hood which is the relay I already replace. When I pull the switch to the third and last position the running lights go out and the headlights come on. DO I HAVE A SHORT ON MY RUNNINGLIGHTS? And is that what that relay is for? To protect the headlights? I really need a explaination on what the heck is going on.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a bad headlight switch, or maybe when you replaced it, you didn't hook it back up right?

I had the same problem with the old switch, that is why I bought a new one. The switch plug is set up so it will only go one way, the right way. :)

thanks Rich
