I have a '95 ranger 2.3L 2WD. Every time I fill up at the pump there is a strong gas smell for at least 3 or 4 days after. And lately I've noticed half of the pumps I go to won't stay on, they instantly click off. So I sit there and hold the damn thing. And when I fill the tank to near capacity (I don't dare "top it off") a gas puddle forms under the tank. It appears to be coming from above the tank. Any ideas? How soon until I blow up?

It depends. Are you a smoker? It sounds as though the hose between the filler neck and the tank may be loose or deteriorated. After checking that, I would let someone else pump gas while you stick your head under the truck. A visual inspection should tell you exactly where the problem is.
