99 F150 shifter knob control

I'm looking for a used work truck and test drove a 99 F150 4.6l auto the other night. The end of the column mounted shifter had a control of some type which appeared to be broken off. Can anyone tell me what this is for ? (possibly O/D???)

The truck was in reasonable shape otherwise so it might be a cheap fix. The control was there, but the housing was broken away and the switch didn't appear to do anything.

Only thing I've ever seen there was a push-button to turn the OD off for towing Texas Parts Guy

As Rex B said the button on the end is the switch to turn of the OD. The surround for this button does break off. Have had that happen on 2 different vehicles. The dealer has these ends and can easily be replaced. The just slide on.

We just started carrying those at Napa too...
