Check engine light.

I have a 2001 Sport Trak with the standard engine. Has a bit over 30k miles on it. My CarChip reported a P0401 code, and explains that "EGR flow Insufficient detected...

Having read this group for several years, I've learned that the obvious is probably not the problem, but just a symptom. Can anyone shed some light on this? TNX.

Try this first. remove egr valve and clean it and the egr ports. I had this problem with my truck and did that and reset the comp and never had the code again.

I will note my egr and ports were dirty as could be alot of carbon build up. Will cause the EGR valve to stick.

Rarely these days an egr valve goes bad under 100k.

Also if you have less than 30k and its a 2001 your still under warranty right? may want to let the dealer do the work.

Helpful hint you will need some heat applied to the bolts on the egr to get em off. Or be able to leverage a big breaker bar to get em free.

Hope this helps,

The first thing i would look at is the dpfe sensor . If you look at egr tube there is two hose on the tube leading to a sensor that the dpfe check hoses . But it is possibly a bad sensor .

Take it to the dealer. The emissions problems are warranted for 5/50 independently of the rest of the vehicle unless you have modified it.

Nope, 2yrs/24000 miles except for major components such as the catalytic convertor and the PCM which are warrantied for

8yrs/80000 miles.

ford has streamlined the diagnostic flow charts recently for the P0401, P0402, P1400, P1401 DTC,s. Head straight to the Delta Pressure Feedback EGR Sensor and replace it. After replacing it clear the codes and run a KOEO (Key On Engine On) self-test to make sure the problem is eliminated. I feel very confident it will be.
