91 Cavalier again.... - Coolant Issues

Last week on Wednesday my car overheated. (2.2 I4 OHV) My dad changed the thermostat thinking that it possibly got stuck in the closed mode since I was full of coolant in the radiator and overflow tank, plus the radiator wasn't even hot but barely warm. So I took out my car again on Sunday for a drive and started smoking again but not as bad as before, just a little to give you a hint to get your butt home. I'm lost as to what it could be. Seems to me I am having bad luck with this car. Any help appriacted.

Having owned a 90 Cavalier with this same engine my guess is you're about to experience the blown head gasket syndrome which this engine is infamous for.

What do you mean by "smoking"? Tailpipe smoke? Or the engine smoking? Or steam? Where was the smoke coming from? Dave

It's engine smoke from underneath the hood.

That's what my dad is saying. He's also saying that I have an external coolant leak because the head gasket is gone.

Is it actually overheating now? These engines were known for external coolant leaks from the head gasket, maybe it's just leaking there. If so, you're going to need to get the head gasket replaced.

keep it simple sayeth tim this way you dont need any shift or punc keys and if you have the same model and engine as tim you must have the same problem change the motor and of course you must have the same problem
