Reliability of XKR

Hi, I considering getting a second hand '99 XKR - Hoever I'm quite sceptical about english cars. I've been driving varous BMW Coupe's and I'm very happy. Just want to try something else. I'm also considering a Porsche 911(996) and that's a quite safe choice that shold give me no problems.

But then this Jaguar is really nice, and an the XKR is more rare than the 911, but then I want to use the car daily and I don't want to bring it to the garage every second month. The Jag comes quite cheap as well, the 99 XKR's are about 33-37.000 Euros in Germany.

So any tips or opinions ?

Thanks !

The XK series was wholy designed after Ford bought Jaguar and upgraded their manufacturing processes and facilities.

I drive an XK8 as my everyday car and I have few maintenance needs.

My son-in-law would dispute your rationale on the 911/996. He unloaded his from new 2002 after 10 months because he was in the shop much more frequently than every two months for *warranty* work. He's on his 5th Porsche in 4 years in his quest to find the *perfect* one. IMHO, he should have kept the from new Boxter S..... His favorite was the '84 911 which "drove as much like Dad's MG Midget for *fun* appeal", which he still borrows for the weekend from time to time for the same reason. I've offered him the '70 FHC E-type on the same terms, but he allways declines in fear of possibly having to replace (to him) an unreplaceable car. (One never knows when a mobile phone booth is going to come up and whack you from behind!).

Go for the Jag. I bought my 1999 model 2 years ago and it has given me

30,000 miles of trouble free motoring.

XKs have been one of the best products ever for Jaguar in terms of reliability & durability. Early ones tended to wear tires quickly due to soft a-arm bushings, but this is easily cured with a factory fix. It's a very safe buy.
