X300 - component that throttle cable connects to - ?

Hello,

my X300 XJR has an annoyingly sticky throttle, and often fails to return to normal idle speed. Seems the culprit is the cylinder-shaped device to the left of the engine bay into which the cable connects. Anyone know how to describe this item?

Mine seems to be electrical, with a possible motor, some sort of plastic cog system to hold at in different opening and another pull-cable leading to who-knows-what.

Does this suggest this device has some functionality other than just throttle? It's as if it were part of a curise-control system - yet my car does not have CC - or does it have the under-bonnet part without the dash control?

Regards
