I have an 88 wrangler with wk551 carb installed and a holley fuel reg set to
3.5PSI. On two occasions, the following has happened:
after a long ride on a beach (much engine stress) using low gears 2,3 4, I get off the beach put the truck back into 2 wheel drive and then the jeep starts bucking when I hit the gas. It then stalls. I try starting the jeep and it won't idle. When I try to start it, it always cranks but won't start. When I step on the accelerator, it chokes. As soon as I let my foot off the pedal, it revs back to normal rpm then stalls. In order for me to get the truck going, I have to really pump and release the accelerator pedal coaching it to run until I get the jeep home.
++ After the jeep sits around for a day or so, really cools down, It starts and runs great again.
I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, verified fuel getting to carb by disconnecting hose going from fuel regulator to carb and turning over the engine.
I have verified webber wk551 adjustments. I have checked the timing. I am trying to figure out how to check vacuum system. I spray carb cleaner on vacuum hoses and carb base, no reaction.
It seems heat related whatever the problem and usually after low gear
4-wheel drive operation.
