'97 zj airbag lamp

'97 zj, I6, select-trac - airbag warning indicator relights after dash lights cycle and it stays on. Horn still works (haven't checked cruise control). Dealer won't tell me anything without the hassle of taking it in and leaving it all day and I don't have a scan tool to get any info on what the problem is.

Clockspring is $200 and someone said if the horn works it might be likely clockspring isn't the problem. AFAICT from FSM the only other item is the control module/impact sensor. I heard someone say that's like $300.

So besides taking it to dealer I'm curious how often this kind of problem is connector-related - check/clean CS/ACM connectors maybe? It has been kinda humid/damp in the garage the past couple months. (And I also splashed through a monstrous puddle a week or so before the light started coming back on but since the unit seems to be all within the vehicle this probably doesn't have anything to do with it.)

And which is more likely - airbag will deploy unexpectedly all by itself or just fail to deploy if I hit something? If it's the latter I could care less about spending hundreds to fix it (called Chrysler and they say there are no TSBs/recalls on this)...
