another question

y'all might remember my post about the blower motor / control console. I finally had a nice day, that I wasn't working, and was able to open everything up. Now, I'm not mechanically inclined, and I checked for the ground wire post from someone....where abouts is it?? the only ground I see is the one going to my stereo. If I had batteries for my camera, I would have taken pics to help you all point it out to me, so if anyone can guide me, or I can hope it'll be another nice day tomorrow, and will have some pics then. thanks

It is on the back of the dash.

I found the recall notice thanks to George in another group. The recall is for Jeeps made in 98 I think, but the same fix sounds like what you are needing and if you make enough noise, well... a recall is a free fix....

Recall 99V117000: Instrument Panel Ground Screws Loose

The left side and right side instrument panel wiring ground attachment screws could loosen over time. If the left side screw loosens, the instrument panel gauges may not function when the headlamps are turned on. If the right side screw loosens, the defroster blower motor may not function.

Dealers will remove the ground screws, drill a new pilot hole adjacent to the original hole, and the screws will be reinstalled in the new holes.

Owner notification began May 31, 1999. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Thanks for the info Mike, but my TJ is a 2000, and I've Googled the recall number...would I still be able to take advantage of this? Plus, If I'm off of warranty...how does that work? Thirdly, I bought my TJ via a private sale, so the local dealer does not have a record of as the owner.

If something is a bad design for one year, you can pretty much bet that same bad part found it's way into other later years.

A recall is a recall. You can call up DC's 800 number and register yourself as the owner so those things will be sent to you.

Our 88 had a recall for the O2 sensor I had done in 99 or so.

Going into a dealer armed with the recall for the 98's and having the exact same trouble, should be good enough to get a free fix, depends on the $tealer I guess.

You can at least use a multimeter on the existing switch to see if it switches by using the ohms or continuity test.

A vehicle is either involved in a recall or it's not, and it's not up to the dealer. If it's involved, it'll get fixed at Chrysler's expense. If not, and if it's not still under warranty, you pay if you want it fixed.

So do you figure the $tealer or DC has ESP or something?

The recall was put out before his Jeep was even made, so unless folks come in armed and complain, DC or the $tealer has no way of knowing the board makers kept on making crappy components.

So you're telling me that if Chrysler tells their suppliers that they want something changed, you don't think they make sure it happens? Especially when it's headed for a recall? Did you read what you typed?

Fixes are put into place on the assembly line long before the recall comes out. That's the way it works.

If Chrysler says it's not involved in the recall, it's not involved.

ROTFLMAO!

Man or whatever you are, did you read what 'you' typed?

The dash back board makers have the shittiest quality control I have ever heard of in a production board.

They have plugs that just plain don't fit, ground bolts that won't hold, etc...

No argument, there have been problems, but as usual, you change the subject when cornered. The point is all those problems got fixed, and no vehicles were added to recalls or TSBs at a later date because repairs were in place BEFORE the recall/TSB was released. They KNOW what vehicles are involved as I've said all along. It's either involved in the recall or it's not.
