AW4 trans / XJ gears

Jeep in question is 91 Cherokee Laredo 4.0 with 4spd automatic and selec-trac trans. I usually run it in 2hi, transmission in the overdrive position (D). Running between 65-70mph, the tach reads 2000-2100rpms. Seems a little low to me. Drop it to 3rd gear, it reads about 3000rpms. Is this consistent with the 4spd auto and 3.55's? I'm concerned I might have

2.something gearing. What are the gear ratios of the AW-4 (I'm guessing I have the AW4) trans?

Thanks,

Carl

All the overdrives I've used drop RPM by about a grand.

I don't have the AW4 transmission in my WJ but with 3.55 gears I run 71-72 mph at 2000 rpm in 4th (overdrive).

What year are these ratio's for. I've read the HO's and Renix engines have a different OD ratio's.

Perfectly normal. My '99 XJ (command-trac) has identical numbers.

Same as my 92 XJ AW4/242.

That is a cut and paste from the '01 XJ manual.

Do the math:

ratio = (rpm * tire_diameter) / (mph * 336)

Assuming your tire diameter is 29" (235/75R15) and you turn 2000 rpm @

65 mph, your final ratio is 2.66. Divide that by your 0.753 OD ratio, and you get 3.53 diff ratio. You have 3.55 gears.
