Cooling fan questions

How freely should the clutch fan spin, engine off/cold? Should it spin as if on greased-lightning bearings, or is it OK if it stops after a few turns?

Also, is the AUX fan active only if the AC is on, or does it come on when ever the computer thinks it needs it?

When the engine is cold, the fan should spin a bit, but not freewheel. When the engine is fully warmed up and someone shuts it down, watch the fan. It should stop almost instantly.

I 'think' the aux fan will come on with an 'overheat' situation, otherwise it works with the AC and defrost. Defrost, because it turns on the AC to act like a dehumidifier.

Should have some resistance to spin when cold, but that depends on the clutch. Never seen one that freewheels. Even the one in my ZJ will only go about half a turn when cold.

The real test is get the engine warm then see how hard it is to spin. With the Engine hot (fan and radiator hot as well) it should not spin freely and for some fans it feels like your moving something through thick molassas.

The 95 should be wired to the AC and have a secondary thermo switch that kicks it on when the engine gets up there. Don't recall it being controlled by the computer in the 95 year.
