It's raining again, and the YJ (87 - 258) is running like crap again. It seems like any set of wires I've put on it does doesn't work in the rain.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific brand to use. I'm pretty sure when I tell the parts store "I want the good ones" they sell me the same ones for twice the price.
When I said I wanted the good plugs, they sold me Bosch Platinum, which I've since heard aren't so good.

OEM wires from the dealer have a lifetime warranty and are still the best ones to use from my experience. Same goes for Champion plugs.
I have tried all of them over the years, performance, etc., and none last like the OEM ones.
I went through 2 sets on my CJ7, one really expensive Accel set that lasted a couple months and first plug check all the ends fell off. I went OEM in 2000 and they are still doing great.
Mine recently started getting bitchy in the rain and wet so I figured cap. I looked and the cap looked like new inside, except.... there was a hair line crack in the inside coil connection tower. Changed that and it purrs again.

It ain't the cap/plugs/rotor, its the engine ground or a harness short. Salt gets into the connectors and forms a bridge when it gets damp, that bridge fubars the engine computer.
Disconnect, clean (both sides), apply dilectric grease, reinstall, all engine connectors. (especially the knock sensor if you have one) And double check that engine ground.
Really? Lifetime warranty - where does it say that? Is that on the ones that come on the Jeep, or only the ones you buy at the parts window?
It was on the ones at the parts window. In Canada too.
Most makers offer 'lifetime' warranty on their 'premium' wire sets these days. Mike

you know, I had this problem with my 86 mitsubishi (CRAP) 4X4 and it spit and sputtered and ran like crap only when it rains....turns out, the catalyc converter was plugging up, and the motor passed on the extra moisture through the exhaust as steam. Then, it would plug or reduce the flow of the catalyc converter, and cause the problems like you mentioned.......worth a shout....kicked my ass for 2 1/2 years till I replaced the converter.......
