Electrical woes continue. Help?

The TFI mod should work for your 304. If I'm not mistaken, that's the same basic engine as the 360, isn't it? Don't get the Accel wires. They are a PITA to get set up properly, and I've heard from several people that they may not last that long. Get the OEM ford truck wires. They should work fine. You will also have to mod your coil bracket to hold the TFI coil (it's rectangular). You can gap your plugs to .040-.045 afterwards, too. :-)

I was right there and saw their meter read a tiny bit over 10 volts, but I wasn't really paying close enough attention. I'm just glad the Jeep is running right again. I'm gonna take it offroad tomorrow and try to get stuck so I can try out my winch. :-D

I will second the 'don't get Accel wires'.

Pieces of crap. The ends all broke off the first time I changed the plugs. I used dielectric grease under the boots so they came off fine, the metal clips mostly all stayed on the plugs and then in the distributor cap when I went to change them.

I went OEM wires from Chrysler with an Accel SuperCoil in 2000 and I cross water over my hood with the standing water at the bottom of my headlights with no problems. 42" to the bottom of my headlights, I do get a wet butt occasionally, but they have never let me down.

You can jump the excite or field from the battery feed to just have the alternator on, period. That can get you out of trouble sometimes. You need a load to help not over charge the battery so lights and heater fan on. Better over charge a battery and have to add some water than being stuck way back in the middle of nowhere.

It's sometimes hard to determine whether it's the regulator or the alternator unless you know the tricks. My rule of thumb has always been to replace the cheapest part first: the regulator. If that doesn't do it, then replace the alternator. It won't hurt to have a new regulator in that case anyway. :-)

I agree, I have all new guts already for my new alternator. Bought a rebuilt kit then figured out the thing was toast. Figured keeping the kit was a good idea for my trail box, saves bringing my spare worn but still good alternator along....

When it comes in I am heading for the woods for a week or more. I will take the camera for sure. Snow should be hitting soon for sure.
