TJ Speaker Upgrade - what fits?

If I understand correctly, the stock 5-1/4" round soundbar speakers can be replaced with 6-1/2" round speakers with no modifications. What about the fronts? What will fit with no mods, what fits with mods? Any good links on modifying the fronts? ( I googled but didn't get any leads.) This is for an '02 TJ Sport - stock bottom end (cassette head) system.

Hey..You can add 5.25" to the front with an adapter from 33 Engineering. Their website is:

I've heard good things about theadapter. They say the 4x6"s don't sound good due to their design whereas around speaker is more uniform. Pete

Can anyone confirm that you can really replace the soundbar 5.25" speakers with 6.5" with no modification? I'm about to replace mine as well. I've already ordered the 33 Engineering brackets mentioned here for the dash and was planning on putting 5.25" speakers in the soundbar as well. Any one put 6.5" in the rollbar before?

I haven't opened up the soundbar yet but the (four) mounting holes for the 6.5" Sony speakers I purchased match up almost exactly with the mounting hole pattern of the stock soundbar speaker grilles. JELo

Most 6.5" speakers will fit the soundbar, but you have to drill new mounting holes. There may be some 6.5s that will have the same mounting hole pattern as the factory. I put Infinity 6.5" coaxials in the sound bar by drilling new holes...they fit great. As for the barcket to install 5.25" in the dash, I have not tried it yet but plan too soon.
