hydraulic winch installation online

after watching a hydraulic winch in action i knew that it was what i wanted for my project rubicon. i searched the net far and wide for a guide to walk me through the installation process and although i found general lists i couldnt find a complete guide so i knew what i had to do.

i hope some of you find it useful. let me know if you feel it is incomplete or any other suggestions for improvement.

Try using a smear of PS fluid on the washers and o-rings. Surface tension should hold them in place long enough to get it all settled. Or you could go to the outside past the o-ring and use a small dab of heavy grease. I'd just be careful not to get it into the PS system. (although it probably wouldn't hurt anything)

after the first try to place the solenoid assembly the entire area is covered with PS fluid thats packed in the assembly. no joy. even tried a dab of silicone.

Hmm.. that leaves using some sort of hi-tack sealant but I'm not sure what problems that could cause if it got into the PS fluid. Could you have made the ports level, sat the washers on the winch, then lowered the solenoid pack down?

Maby saran wrap, foil, or some tape stuck to itself? That would have been thin and fairly easy to pull out

Oh well, It's in and that is what matters in the long run. :)

Ah Nat: You made a fine choice. There are more and more people switching once they see the difference. I have had mine for about 5 year's or so now and I wouldn't get rid of it for nothing. And every one who has seen it work they all ways say that's what I'm going to buy when I get the money to buy a winch. Ball's up power that's what it is. You might just want to make a note, in this sentence "Free spool your cable out and connect it to a stationary object like a tree." that if you're going to use a tree to be sure to use a strap(?) to protect the tree from damage.

Heck.. feel free to use that POS rattletrap rice burner up my street. When your done winching parts off of it I'll call the local wrecking yard to come turn it into a nice boat anchor.

This idiot was actually pouring motor oil into the gutter, about three cars worth of it. The local Police and city folks gave them a nice education.

Personally I don't much like pine trees, they are just roman candles waiting to go off in a fire. Oaks and Pecans are much nicer, especially the pecans. (looks outside at the HEAVY blossoms)..mmmm... pie!

They have a bazillion of those at Vandenberg AFB. You would think they were native as the greenies didn't want them cut down. Those fat leaves play hell with radio comms.

Unfair comparison. A proper 4" tree strap has no elasticity, will not stretch, and can hold 30,000 lb:

Go give that tree a great big hug and tell it you're sorry.
