Jeep YJ engine problems...

Jul 14, 2004 4 Replies

I have a 91 YJ with a 2.5L engine. The problem is once the engine heats up it shuts down... once it cools down it starts and runs fine until it heats up again.. Any suggestions on what mught be the issue?

Any help would be great..

Thanks

Replaced it already.. Still having the issue.. Any other suggestions?

A weak ignition module can cause that.

You can get freeze spray at electronics shops. When it quits, give it a shot of freeze spray and if it starts right back up, you have likely found the trouble.

A blocked air filter on the gas tank vent can also cause that. it builds up vacuum and dies. Let it sit for a bit and away it goes again. Quick test for that is to crack open the gas cap when it dies. Again if it starts right back up, you have it.

When I was having the same problem with my YJ I followed Mikes suggestion and got the problem fixed right away. It was the ignition module.
