Liberty 4wd question

I was stuck in snow lately and this event broke my understanding of the 4 weel drive sustem.

I have a liberty 2003 with 4 drive mode and special diferential:

2wd, 4wd part time, 4wd full time and 4wd lo. My understanding was: 2 wd: normal low consomation drive, 4wd part time : 4 wd with all weel turning together not use on normal road, 4 wd full time: 4wd to use on normal road can be drive at high speed, 4wd lo : same as 4wd part time but lower geer to have more power.

As I told you I had a stange experience when stuck on snow. 2 wd stuck - go to 4wd full time stay stuck (lot of snow) , go to 4wd part time stay stuck ? , try 4wd lo surprise get out without problem. I taught that the 4wd part time was same as 4wd lo except speed and power.

Can some one explain please.

When stuck in snow having your wheels spin at a fast rate will only dig your tires in deeper.. If your on ice they may just sit there and spin.. Common solution is to start out in second gear if you have a standard.. Switching to 4lo results in a reduction in the speed tires will rotate vs engine rpm... In none of your 4wd settings on your liberty will all four wheels spin at the same speed or torque if your stuck in snow or ice.. You'll notice that one front wheel will spin like mad while the other probably won't move at all, or very little if anything.. and you may or may not notice the same thing in the rear end depending on weather or not you opted for a limited slip rear end..
