I have been amazed all summer by the bigger and better toys that people are dragging up here to have fun with, as if the only way to have fun was to burn fuel, in a new vehicle. A guy from Texas told me his motor home gets 6 mpg. I know some of these guys are retired folks who can afford anything, but some of them look young enough to be raising a family. I wonder what they are going to do when the summer's credit cards come due. A retired banker I met in town told me he thinks, the CC companies are running the same scam the mortgage industry was doing.

Still, you may get better mileage after the switch, especially if that auto has an overdrive.

LOL. Nice!!

Hell, I have an 05 rubi that I have done about as much as my wife will let me. LOL. 4.5" RE, KC lights on light bar on bump, warn 9500 winch, 33x12.5 on 15's, garvin front and rear bumpers, congo cage, rear trail rack, bunch of other crap.

I am still running stock 4.11. Get this one I recently went out to the colorado river, clocked it both ways. Start to finish, 9.3 MPG. Freakin congo cage really hurts in mpg not to mention I think its time to buy some ear plugs because of the rack and soft top!!! Argh! LOL.

So I was thinking and just talking to my old man (well hell we are both old), shall I go to 35's with a 1" BL and goto 4.88, or stay at

33's (to be safe on the D44's, I can F anything up LOL) and go to 4.56.

NOW you have got me thinking, maybe I should go to 4.88 with 33's. Damnit Kate!

Earle,

I guess I should consider myself lucky, my RV gets 10 mpg. Pretty sad when that is pulling the jeep. LOL. Aint life beautiful.

Take care all,

Take care all,

--- --- --- The Honda Civic is still getting 45 mpg, like it did when I bought it. The Wrangler is getting about 23. I say go with the most aggressive gear ratio available because (a) all that extra equipment you are carrying needs it and (b) it will be more fun to drive.

Who cares...You only live once! We are only averaging 20 to 22 miles a gallon in our liberty... But what ever we enjoy our vehicle and we have had to cut corners with our gas price of $6.53 per gallon.

I DO have OD, and I am kind of hoping that it improves just a tad. I KNOW it will improve performance all the rest of the way around!

I have no complaints about it's trail abilities as it is, but I do gripe and moan a lot while on the highway. Having to wait for a downhill slope and a tailwind to pass bites. I'm planning to put 35's on it when these wear out, likely next year. May as well get ready for it now.

Fortunately, I am paying cash for my goodies. No more CC's for me. I paid them all off and put them away for emergencies only. It feels SO good not to have the bills any more.

Hey... here's where we went this weekend!

My daughter was in charge of taking pictures. You might recognize my rig. It's the purtiest one LOL White Rubi with the light bar folded down on it. Folding it down keeps it from being tree food.

This is my favorite shot from the whole trip

You cracked me up! I asked the folks I know which they would recommend, some say 4.88s, others

5.13s. I decided on the 5.13s because I DO plan to put 35's on it next year.

The gas mileage is a pain in the butt BUT, it'w worth hundreds of un-counted miles of smiles! I look so forward to going out with the gang and playing. We're going to Superlift again over Labor Day. I'm already all jacked up and hope my gears and BL (1.25" JKS) are on by then. I get a little rub now and then.

I have SUCH a list! ORO U-turn ... and ... oh oh oh!!!! Speaking of ORO! A MUST HAVE mod you should get is a SwayLoc! It's amazing! Takes the tilt out on the road and with just the flick of a little bitty lever, you're unlocked and ready to roll. It gave Ajax some road manners and keeps my fat ass from having to climb around under it to disconnect ;¬D

Kate, just a heads up for you. My CJ, which is different because of it's carb, but folks with TJ's and oversized tires have reported somewhat the same, gets about 5 mpg 'Better' when I 'don't' use OD.

When you use OD with oversized tire, it starts to lug the engine too easy. This makes it drink gas. Your hill description screams engine lugging.

In OD I need to use almost all or all of the gas pedal to climb slopes or fight wind because I am only turning 1750 rpm. When I drop to 4th, I am turning 2300 rpm and a twitch of the gas pedal will let it hold the slopes or wind. Mine will also haul hard in 3rd gear up to 75 mph for passing.

I would recommend you do a mileage check and try forgetting about that

5th gear or OD to see what the difference is. Makes a difference of 21 mpg highway vs 16-18 mpg highway on mine.

Kate, I also have a link for you that I don't want to post public. If you would care to drop me an email I will send it back. I had a hard drive melt down and lost your email addy.

Hey Mike, For the group, I did do a mile4age check last week. Filled 'er up, ran all week with the light bar DOWN and the OD off. Drove as I usually do. Got a whopping 10.6.

I'll email you Mike
