Re: Borla vs. Banks headers

Chuck, I just installed the Banks in my '97 ZJ a couple weeks ago. Install went very smoothly and I was impressed with the header. It was truly a complete kit with all needed bolts/nuts, anti-seize compound and gasket. A couple of things made my install smooth. First, a couple of days beforehand start spraying a penetrating oil on all the nuts you'll need to loosen. Second, make sure you have a 9/16 flex socket. It took me a couple of hours to complete and I would consider myself with just average mechanical skills.

I have a 1998 TJ 4.0 which recently developed the dreaded cracked > exhaust manifold (65K miles). I am going to order either a Borla or a > Banks header. The Banks is about $10 more than the Borla. Thanks for the responses. I had my Banks "torque tube" headers installed today. Sounds a lot better than the cracked OEM that's for sure. Seat of the pants tells me I might have gained some power. The OEM headers had about 4 or 5 very large cracks upon inspection.
