96 Sephia outer tie-rod question

On the passenger side of my 96 Kia Sephia 1.8 L,.............is there supposed to be any play at all when the vehicle is raised and doing a suspension/steering linkage test? The drivers side is solid and nothing moves, However on the passenger side, there is about half an inch of movement of the wheel at the outer tie-rod.( I just recently changed the lower ball joints and got a new wheel bearing pressed in) Basically I put both hands on the outer tire while my left hand pushes inward while my right pulls outward....then reversing the movement. Once again.....there is about half an inch of movement from the outer tie-rod.......Is this normal? Ive always thought that there is supposed to be a very small small to absolutely no movement at all. The reason I ask is that I just bought this tie-rod at an "advanced auto parts" store and need to know if I should return it. The shop manual for this car doesnt seem to mention how much play there should be.Would appreciate any advice

There should be -0- play in the tie rod end. You do need to see what is actually doing the moving. Loose bearings and worn ball joints can make you think you have play in the tie rod end if you don't look to see what's actually doing the moving. Also make sure the movement isn't coming from the inner tie rod end.
