101 on LPG

the carby used on 6 cylinder series 3s and all v8s in australia was the zenith-stromberg 175cd, not 150. i can only assume it was te same in UK. The

175 is 1 3/4 inch while the 150 is 1 1/2 inch. it may be that the mixer will be a tad small for the 175, or do both those stromberg models have an identical bolt pattern on the filter side?

Sam.

There are 2 spare 175CD gas mixers sitting here doing nothing (other than gathering dust...) that could be anyone's for a reasonable offer...? Badger.

I think I actually meant CD175 anyway!. My other car had 150's on.

Lee_d borrowed my spare carb and fitted it straight onto his 6 pot, so it must be a 175.

Yes, that's why Martyn says it sounds so good. Its running really well. I have proper power on demand.

Jealous ? I don't know, in a straight line, or over a limited angle of "differential", it has NO extra drag.

The figures I had were NOT from that run - when I dragged a trailer with a Porsche scrapper on the back the week after, I got EIGHT to the gallon.

Would I really notice a binding brake on a 9X16 ?

Looking for ideas.

Steve

Whatever - none of the LPG guys "standard" SU or Stromberg fitting fitted whatever REME fitted on Bob !

Steve

I would have offered to lend you mine... :-(

Yeah definately a cd175

A photo of the carbs would help I guess.

The more I read the more I'm thinking rolling road. Your going to be chasing your tail for a long time otherwise.

I'd be suspicious of anything non standard fitted. Running well and Sounding good are not really good ways to tell if all is well. It sounded good on the sound bite on Mike Derricks web site and still sounded good at the camp site. It's clearly been tinkered with a bit between IYSWIM. Did you make the new mixers such that they don't restrict the air flow and if so could this actually be part of the problem poor mixing? What does it do to the gallon on Petrol? This should give a indication as to where to start looking, if it was any more than 10% better I'd still be looking hard at the gas setup.

Have you compensated for the timing on LPG?

Is the gas you buy tending to be from the same outlet? Could be crap gas or a pump that needs calibrating.

Lee D

He was tuned up professionally, about 2 months ago, on a 5 gas analyser at Pioneer Autogas in Rochdale, he was "perfect" then, at idle and "at revs", but that's not on a rolling road. The injector have an aperture of around 1.25", from memory.

Its so long since I ran him on petrol I can't say.

No, and I'll look at that when I do the ignition system. Some say it doesn't matter, some say it does. What do you reckon ?

Nope, I've been all over. MOST of the figures have been steady 50 MPH numbers too.

Thanks for all the ideas guys !

Steve

Well if the engines get hotter when the timing aint right then that heat has to come from somewhere so I'd say yes it does matter.

I know a fraction out when running on 7 cylinders make the difference between Morph being a Hill mucher or a road side Cafe. Can't wait to get him going again :0)

LPG goes better if the timing is advanced slightly, about 3 degrees, compared to petrol, but it's not critical.

Well, he's not running on 7 according to expert ears, so its got to be the timing that gets checked out next.

Thanks for the timing info.

Steve

Thanks!. a nice read there. I hope you continue to update it - it'll give me more motivation!. I bought my ambi about the same time as Tim bought his and his is doing better than mine :(

I've just advanced the timing on my car (running on LPG since earlier this week) and its made an improvement. I went from 15 btdc to about 20 (book says 18btdc for 4 star juice).

I've also disconnected the vacuum advance as it was recommended. Might put it back on later to see what difference it makes, but the car is currently going really well. I have a slight misfire when it gets hottest, but i'm hoping this si down to the plugs and leads which i need to adjust and replace.

Yep, but look what I had to do to make it happen... :(

Good point - but it was doing pretty well before then too!

Mines even gone mouldy :( (my drive isnt flat and it drains down one corner when it rains)
