Def 90 300tdi to RaRo 300tdi

I'm thinking of trading in my Def 90 300tdi and buying a RaRo 300tdi (I like the engine) because I need to move more people (maybe kids) around seat-belted and the wife wants something with airbags, that drives more like a car; I would also need a left hooker. Would be spending about £10K

Can any one tell me:

- What was fitted as standard or available as option 94-96 (eg air con/air suspension/airbags etc.)?

- Are parts prices and availability similar to a Defender?

- Problems that you would not find on a no-option Defender (eg. air suspension, electric windows, tail gate, any non-chassis rust problems)

Any advice or informative websites would be handy.

consider a disco as well. drives almost identical, more practical in a lot of ways, unless you're very tall, in which case the driving position is a little cramped.

rear leccy windows on the disco can be erratic but there's an easy fix for that if you're handy with a soldering iron.

apart from that... spares availability is good for all of 'em, prices of most stuff much similar (the mechanical bits are all the same anyway). Air sus is only on the very last RR LSEs, or P38s of course. no discos with air sus, AFAIK, unless you make yer own... I was always disappointed that they never did an LSE disco...

Austin Hi,

Now this is something that has not been done AFAIK. And I think it should not be that difficult. Especially if using a pair of RaRo rear doors (maybe reskinned so as to incorporate the indent of the Disco's door skins) Even the rear door appertures weatherstrips from the RaRo LSE will probably fit. Discovery rear doors cappings can be tailored to fit on the RaRo door frames by cutting them, adding material and then covering them with leather or leatherette. Apart from that I think that adding those few inches of legroom at the rear passengers footwell and the required roof length is not that difficult.

As for the ais suspension I am sure that the Ogden Air system kit will fit perfectly (and it will be far more reliable than the LR devised one)

Take care Pantelis

although there were some steel suspended 116" wheelbase Discoveries, most of which went to Northumbria Ambulance, although Derbyshire ambi had a couple as well

that's about what I thought. haven't got around to it yet though.

wonder if there's a market for it...

also wonder if there's any future in a lengthened disco body on a 110 chassis, near enough the same thing.
