Disco 2 and flat batteries

OK this is for a mate of mine.

He has a may 03 Disco td5 that continually seems to suffer from flat battery problems. Basically he is being told that this is a normal landrover problem (the electrical system "leaks").

Now owning a defender I know about oil leaks but electrical?

Given that this should be a warrenty issue but it doesnt seem to be progressing very far he is keen to do some investigation himself.

Firstly - is this a known problem with this model (continual flat battery)

if it is what is the offending system/component, if its not and assuming battery and alternator are OK where does he start to look?

Thanks in advance

Personally, I'd complain the hell out of the local LR dealer. A 1 year old vehicle doesn't 'leak' electric .. they're talking bullshit. errr .. that's if it was the local LR dealer .. If it was a mate then he's wrong, way wrong .. ;)

If you still get no joy then go to a local car electrics specialist ..

House alarm systems at Origon weather stations have been previous offenders....

Swaping a module on the central locking resloves the issue assuming your mate has the same kit fitted.

I agree, shouldn't happen. The two times I've had vehicles that flatten batteries, one was a 1988 granada cos, the other a 1984 110 (not the one I have now) it was down to the alarm system.

I'd send your friend to a decent auto-electrics place, get a diagnosis, then make a fuss at the dealer again. This is quite wrong.

stroo that. My bike has been standing for about 4 months, and only has a

10AH battery. nevertheless, there was enough charge in it to turn it over on the starter, albeit not enough to actually start it.

Something is causing the alarm to stay awake all time - someone posted a while back giving details of a common device that causes the problem (not just to LR's!) - perhaps a seach of google groups will turn it up?

Oregon Scientific weather station with wireless sensors, also some brands of garage door opener and some wireless microphones.
