P38a Cold Start

Can anyone give me ideas as to why my 1996 P38 4.0 SE has developed a cold start problem?

It seems to take ages to fire up in the morning and just as long when i leave it for a few minutes, I have replaced the cold start sensor and checked the connection.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Did you check the connection all the way back to the ECU?

Can you give us some more clues: petrol/diesel, age of engine, and which sensor you replaced (there are two on the petrol engine).

Andy,

Thanks for your reply.

The engine is a 4.0 V8 petrol and i replaced the sensor at the front of the inlet manifold (next to the oil filler) I have recently found that if i crank the engine first, switch off the ignition, then start it again the engine fires nearly straight away.

Not being totally clued up on Rangies i'm not sure what i am looking for.

But thanks again

Matt

Fuel pump or some kind of priming issue? Sticky injectors? I'm guessing here, the bit of the rangie I know least about is the noisy bit under the bonnet :-) But hopefully this will let someone else chime in with an answer. If not, I suggest subscribing to the rangie-l mailing list hosted at

as there are a good number of clued-up P38A owners on that list.
